What Problems Are We Addressing?
Strategic supply chain risk: The global drone market is heavily reliant on Chinese components, which make up 80–90% of the UAS market. The absence of UK-made electric motors and other critical components leaves both defence and commercial operators vulnerable, hence UK and allied governments are accelerating the move to sovereign supply chains.
Commercial drone operations are failing to unlock industry potential due to regulatory requirements: There are strict limitations on drone sizes and where they can operate based on rigorous (as yet unmet) airworthiness standards. This is why use cases like drone deliveries are so limited.
Industry Projections
Fuelled by an acceleration in technology and developing use cases, the commercial drone market is projected to exceed $125 billion by 2032, with a CAGR >15%, with the large (>25kg) UAS market expected to outperform other hardware areas. In the US for example, the latest FAA Aerospace Forecast predicts “…growth of new large UAS over the next five years to keep pace with the growth observed in 2023 [of 174%]…”
Accelerated demand for Western products driven by supply chain preferences, coupled with a move towards larger aircraft, and the associated airworthiness requirements, make certified products the most interesting sector of the UAS hardware market and the one we are actively addressing.
